Candidate questionnaire for 8E05
If you live in SMD 8E05 and plan to run as a write-in for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, answer these questions to be listed here on ward8votes.org. It takes about 30 minutes.
Before you start
- Deadline: answer by Saturday, October 24 to be listed.
- Everyone who completes it is listed, in alphabetical order, with answers published exactly as you submit them.
- Each answer, including your bio, can be up to 500 characters, or about five sentences.
- Your phone, address, and email stay private. I use them only to confirm you're a real 8E05 resident and to reach you about your listing.
- This questionnaire doesn't make you an official candidate. To be elected, you also need to file the Affirmation of Write-in Candidacy with the Board of Elections by 5 p.m. on November 10. Here's how to file it.
The questions
You'll be asked to confirm that:
- You're a registered DC voter.
- You live in SMD 8E05 and meet the residency requirement.
- You hold no other elected office.
- You can commit at least 10 hours per week to the work of our ANC.
- You have filed, or will file by November 10, the Affirmation of Write-in Candidacy.
- You consent to your answers being published as submitted.
Then you'll answer the seven questions below. You may want to draft your answers first.
FYI: several of these questions draw on what Ward 8 residents said they wanted in A Dream Deserved, the Ward 8 Community Economic Development report, credited to the Ward 8 Community Economic Development Initiative (w8ced.org). This site is not affiliated with W8CED.
- What will be your top priority for your two-year term?
- How will you reach neighbors who aren't online or don't come to meetings?
- A resident has a problem with a 311 request going unaddressed. How do you escalate their concerns with the relevant city agency?
- A developer proposes a large project at the former UMC site that needs Zoning Commission approval. What do you ask for in a Community Benefits Agreement?
- Another vehicle collision occurs along Southern Avenue, but neighbors are divided on how to improve traffic safety. How do you work with residents and the city to address the problem?
- A neighbor says she's about to lose her housing and can't pay for groceries or utilities. What do you do to help?
- The ANC agrees to budget $1,000 to fund a project in our community. What do you propose?
